Why do so many coaches hesitate to post, shrink back from visibility, or feel unsafe being fully seen?
The hidden reason often isn’t lack of strategy or skill. It’s trauma.
In this episode of The Geoff Newton Show, I’m joined by trauma-informed healing arts practitioner Linda Dieffenbach to explore how becoming trauma-informed can change the way you show up for yourself and for your clients.
We unpack how unaddressed trauma sneaks into coaching and healing work, and why awareness is the missing piece for building confidence, creating safer spaces, and moving through stuck sessions.
You’ll discover:
• Why visibility often feels unsafe (and how trauma plays a hidden role)
• How unaddressed trauma shows up in coaching, even for skilled practitioners
• Practical ways to show up with more confidence and consistency
• Why client sessions sometimes stall—and how trauma awareness can unlock progress

“Trauma-informed” isn’t necessarily about diving into a client’s deepest wounds, that’s usually for therapists. Instead, it’s about awareness. In our conversation, Linda explains how trauma affects the nervous system, behavior, and self-perception in ways that most coaches never consider.
When you recognize those patterns, you stop taking things personally, release judgment, and hold space that feels safe enough for transformation to happen.
Linda’s story is raw, personal, and eye-opening. From a painful adolescence to nearly 15 years of “wearing a mask” before finding energy work and trauma-informed care, she knows firsthand how unhealed wounds can drive us to help others.
Here’s the part most coaches miss: that very drive to “fix” clients often comes from our own survival strategies. Left unchecked, it can lead to overgiving, weak boundaries, or even reenacting trauma dynamics in our sessions.
So many coaches think their hesitation to show up is about confidence or consistency. But as Linda explains, the fear of being seen often runs deeper—rooted in old patterns of rejection, invalidation, or silencing.
When you understand trauma’s role in visibility, you can stop blaming yourself for “not being confident enough” and start creating safety in how you show up.
Have you ever felt like a session just wasn’t moving forward, no matter what tool you used? Often, trauma responses—like freeze, dissociation, or shutdown—are at play.
With trauma awareness, you stop taking these moments personally and start responding with compassion. Instead of pushing harder, you create safety—helping clients re-engage and move forward.
Linda shares tools for grounding, noticing triggers, and practicing small steps of safe visibility. These aren’t about pushing through fear, but about cultivating awareness and choice so you can share your voice without burning out or shutting down.
